These learning center activities are fun centers that could be setup for use with any students in grade pre-k through early second grade. There are activities here that would be good for hands on learners as well as visual learners. You could modify these by having materials already in center areas before you begin which would be good for classroom management and if you have ELL learners you could pair them with groups of children who work well with them in order to help them learn the skill.
1. Snap it up! (Word Families)
Fast-paced fun is the name of the game! Players pick and pass cards as fast as they can to build words and reinforce beginning and ending blends concepts.
2. Table Top Pocket Chart Word Families
This activity introduces 26 different Word Families in an easy-to-use format as kids learn to identify rhyming word sounds and discover word patterns
Just put a starter tile in each of 10 clear pockets and ask the student to find the other 3 matches

4. Words that Rhyme with Ake; My Rhyming Book
Create a rhyming book filled with words with the ending -ake. Help your kindergartner color the pictures of the words that rhyme with "take", then fill in the blanks with their beginning letters, saying each word aloud. When you're done, cut out the squares and turn them into a mini phonics book.
Print out the following pages to make 'Words that Rhyme with Ake, an early reader book for young readers about words that rhyme with Ake. There are four rectangular book pages on each printed page. Have the students cut each page in four along the dark lines. Make sure the title page is on the top. The last page should be the one asking, "Can you think of another word that rhymes with ake?" 5. Tic Tac Toe Word Families
Tic-Tac-Toe Word Families Level 3 is designed to reinforce silent e words and long vowel word families. These game sheets can be placed in sheet protectors and stored in a binder. They are a perfect compliment to any literacy center! The first two pages called Tic Tac Silent e are a perfect way to introduce the silent e concept. The top words in the word bank are simple cvc words However, when the silent e is placed at the end of these cvc words, the vowel changes to a long vowel. This silent e concept in reinforced with the following word familes: -ate, -ake, -ame, -ice, -ide, -ine and –oke.
